The Create 508 Program began in 2021 as a collaboration between the Worcester Cultural Coalition and the City of Worcester’s Cultural Development Division and Division of Youth Opportunities. This six-month youth development and employment program sought to support youth leaders in driving Worcester’s culture and community, while simultaneously learning the business side of art.

During the 2021 pilot season, the first youth cohort called themselves the Heart of the Arts (HOTA). Through the pilot, 13 Worcester youth leaders were guided through a mentorship process that gave them hands-on practice in cultural and creative activation. The program culminated with Color the City, a community festival planned and executed by the Youth Leaders and their artist mentors on the Worcester Common and Franklin Street on August 20th, 2021. The festival featured live youth performances, artists and crafters, food vendors, and creative installations. After its initial success, the Create 508 Program will continue its work equipping youth to become the next generation of cultural organizers, activists, and creative change makers.

Applications for the 2022 Create 508 Program close February 14, 2022.
